New Systems Require New Structures examines how we shape and are shaped by systems through the production of a series of drawings and sculptures. This new body of work will focus on city systems and built structures, their interaction with each other and the new configurations that are formed.

Sara Graham studied at University of Guelph (MFA, 2006), Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (BFA, 1997) and the Banff Centre of the Arts (2002). Her interest is in the philosophical, practical and political aspects of the design and depiction of cities through urban and suburban cartographies and topologies. Graham’s practice involves the blurring of representation within and between the disciplines of art, architecture, urban design and geography exploring concepts of authenticity and inauthenticity, materiality and intangibility, fact and fiction. The development of her work over the last few years has centred on explorations on geographic fictions that involves the investigation of city systems and networks.

Graham has exhibited across Canada with recent exhibitions in Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery (Kitchener), The Rooms Provincial Art Gallery (St John’s), Confederation Centre Art Gallery & Museum (Charlottetown), The New Gallery (Calgary), YYZ Artists’ Outlet (Toronto), Articule (Montreal), MKG127 (Toronto), and Nuit Blanche (Toronto). She has upcoming solo exhibitions MKG127 (Toronto) and Bilton Contemporary (Alberta).
